Resistance to Agroecological Transition in Mexico

Abstract

Objective: to demonstrate the theoretical and epistemological gap about the resistance to the agroecological transition, and to propose a model for its analysis. Methodology: an extensive review was carried out in databases of indexed journals, using the following search words, both in Spanish and English: “resistance” + “agroecology”, + (“initiative”, “intervention”, “difficulty”). Results: the null treatment of the subject in the scientific literature is confirmed, and a multidimensional and multi-scale analysis model is proposed. Value: incorporating the subject of resistance to the agroecological transition into the analysis and into the proposals for it, and to show, in epistemological terms, the dispute around two different agri-food paradigms. Limitations: the proposed analysis model requires empirical feedback with field research. Conclusion: recognizing and identifying resistance to the agroecological transition opens the way for the development and implementation of counter-hegemonic strategies with greater socio-environmental impact.

Objetivo: evidenciar el vacío teórico y epistemológico sobre la resistencia a la transición agroecológica y proponer un modelo para analizarla. Metodología: se realizó una amplia revisión en bases de datos de revistas indizadas, utilizando las siguientes palabras de búsqueda, tanto en español como en inglés: “resistencia” + “agroecología” + (“iniciativa”, “intervención”, “dificultad”). Resultados: se constató el nulo tratamiento del tema en la literatura científica y se propone un modelo de análisis multidimensional y multiescalar. Valor: incorporar el tema de la resistencia a la transición agroecológica al análisis y a las propuestas de esta y mostrar, en términos epistemológicos, la disputa en torno a dos diferentes paradigmas agroalimentarios. Limitaciones: el modelo de análisis propuesto requiere retroalimentación empírica mediante investigaciones de campo. Conclusión: reconocer la resistencia a la transición agroecológica abre paso al desarrollo y a la implementación de estrategias contrahegemónicas de efecto socioambiental positivo.
